The first time she saw him, she'd said good morning and he'd looked up at her and smiled and all the hair stood up on the back of her neck. Each person the spotlight falls on seems to be hiding something and as additional information is progressively fed in I found that my perception of what was going on in the background was subtly (or sometime not so subtly) challenged. Overall: maybe this book may have been promoted as contemporary fiction, I could have a chance to like it more. My thanks to Penguin Random House UK Audio, Transworld Digital and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A narrowboat is not a comfortable environment for a tall man, and this was a very tall man, with a head like a cue ball and a perturbed expression, as though heÕd been expecting to do something else today, something fun, like taking his kids to the park, and now he was here with her, and he wasnÕt happy about it. With the same propulsion that captivated millions of readers worldwide in The Girl on the Train and Into the Water , Paula Hawkins unfurls a gripping, twisting story of deceit, murder, and revenge. Pacey, each short chapter flips between the points of view of three central characters — Laura, Miriam and Carla — with others seen through the eyes of Theo (Carla’s husband) and Irene (a meddling elderly neighbour). Fortunately for Daniel, there is a noisy neighbor Miriam who takes detailed records of all of the comings and goings. Add to this a mother who is not supportive and a father who is emotionally absent and you have one troubled young woman.Tie-in all of these characters in a spellbinding, psychotic thriller and pick one out of the bunch narrowing it down into a guilty and not guilty pile, you will undoubtedly need to tear it down and restart with many surprising second guesses. Paula Hawkins bestselling debut novel The Girl on The Train, which has since been given the Hollywood treatment starring Emily Blunt, sold 23 million copies. The need for revenge gradually brewing inside the characters, built up over a long period because of deceit and treachery, eventually leading to murder is aptly revealed in the pace of the book as well as on the title. An unflinching look at the damage sparked by grief, loss and betrayal - and the revenge and retribution that ensues. I’ll be interested to see what others think of it: I expect some will absolutely love it though others might feel as I do, that it rather passed them by.

Wickedly dark and gorgeously written, this is a novel you'll be thinking about long after the last delicious pages. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. When at last the flow of blood seemed to slow, Laura took off her T-shirt and dropped it on the floor, slipped out of her jeans, dropped her knickers, and wriggled out of her bra, inhaling sharply through her teeth as the metal catch scraped against the cut, hissing, "Fuck fuck mother of fuck. Superbly told, its twists and turns reveal the slow fire burning inside each which might just destroy them. The first half of the book was a bit slow and it took some time to figure out each character's personality and how it played into the storyline.I found it ambitious in that each character had reasons to be the murderer, depending upon the chapter.

First published in 1923, it has been translated into more than 100 languages and was loved by Gandhi and the Beatles. She was out on the back deck, checking she had a clear run-that there weren't any obstacles on the path, bicycles, or bottles (people could be extremely antisocial, particularly late on Saturday nights). On her way to the bedroom, she stepped on her jacket, which she'd dropped in the hallway in her rush to get to the bathroom.
