When her incredibly attractive husband dumps her after he refuses to spend more than a day or two at a time with her at home in retirement, she naively believes he just likes to go on long golf trips with the boys and isn't cheating on her. Right. That's why he secretly moved out when she was out of town, lied to her, and broke up over the phone. For some reason she continues to praise him when she should have shared much more of what really was going on. Guerrero was the celebrity cover model in the January 2006 issue of Playboy magazine, billed on the cover as "The Best Damn Sports Beauty". [10] There are light-hearted moments in the book, too. There was that time, for example, she walked down a hotel hallway with broadcaster John Madden after a production meeting in a conference room. He swiped a cookie off a leftover room service tray. “Finders, keepers,’’ Madden explained with a smile. INTERVIEW: INSIDE EDITION'S LISA GUERRERO VENTURES INTO DIY WITH NEW BOOK". Shasie's World. MARTIN: Likewise. You know, you’ve had this incredible career. And it’s interesting because I’m guessing that a lot of people who know you from one of your lives doesn’t necessarily know you from your other lives. I mean, you’ve been a professional football cheerleader, you’ve been an actress on a popular drama, you’ve been a sportscaster on what has been the highest profile, you know, sports show, especially in football. You’re a long time award-winning investigative reporter, and now, you’re writing a memoir. Why now? What made this time?Inside Edition isn't really my thing, but I'm definitely interested in memoirs by women who've worked in sports journalism, so I wanted to give Warrior by Lisa Guerrero a try. MARTIN: Well, Lisa, you’ve had just such a remarkable career. Lots of ups and lots of downs. Lots of downs that then become ups. Where are you now? Like now that you’ve told it, now that you’ve lived it, you know, how do you feel about all that? Do you think it was worth it? A major problem with the book is that she only alludes to some major life or career events, failing to give any stories about working on some big TV shows as an actress or alongside famous people. She glosses over a number of highlights while spending way too much time trying to tell us how mistreated she was by men. MARTIN: Was there a, kind of, eureka moment for you that said to you, this is the time to tell this story. Was there something in particular or something that someone said or someone who reached out to you that made you feel that you needed to share this story? Which is extremely, I have to say, very personal. At times — I mean, you talked about a lot of mistakes that you made. And — do you know what I mean? What was it exactly?

Casselberry, Ian (February 3, 2021). "Lisa Guerrero recounts her traumatic experience as Monday Night Football sideline reporter". Awful Announcing. In a revealing new memoir, the journalist, former NFL cheerleader, and sportscaster details the sexist bullying that almost broke her--and how she reclaimed her life."— People I love how she didn't shy away from some of the deep and heartbreaking moments she encompassed upon in her life. Lisa is an inspiration to many, and I highly recommend this book to anyone & everyone! GUERRERO: So, because “Inside Edition” is popular with young people because of YouTube, a lot of kids watched my investigations. They binged them on their devices. I started to read the comments below my stories written by a teenager is and kids in high school and junior high school, and they would say, wow, she looks like Wonder Woman. She’s out there, you know, chasing these bad people and demanding justice. She’s brave. I want to be brave like her but I’m being bullied in school. I want to be able to stand up to my mom who is being abused by my dad. And I started reading these comments from young people and I just wept. I thought they look at me as being brave. But when I was their age, I was shy, I was awkward, I had lost my mother at eight years old. I was glasses and braces and, you know, an introvert. I was far from brave. But they see me as being brave. So, I wanted to write something that would be both a love letter and a, you know, guide to how to navigate through obstacles from the time you’re a kid, from the time you’re 58, like I am. I wanted people to know that you can always reach down into the inner warrior that I believe we all have. The reason I called the book “Warrior” is my last name Guerrero or guerrero means warrior in Spanish. And when I was little, I was eight years old when my mom was diagnosed with lymphoma. She died at 29. But before she passed away, she pulled me aside and said, Lisita (ph), never forget that your last name is Guerrero, and Guerrero means warrior. You were born to fight. So, that’s the legacy I wanted to leave in this book. I wanted everybody to know that we all have an inner warrior, we need to unleash it. Reinhart, Mark S. (July 31, 2013). Fifteen years later, Guerrero hosted the Secrets of Playboy. The show won the Critics Choice Award for Best Crime and Justice Show in 2022. [11] Her in-studio sit down interviews with the survivors earned critical praise. As a woman trying to navigate my own career, reading about Lisa Guerrero's tenacity and grit as she strived and worked tirelessly to make a name for herself was absolutely inspiring. Her story is compelling, impactful, and most importantly influential. Guerrero writes of her life and career in cheerleading, modeling, acting and finally journalism, specific parts of her life that not only defined her as a warrior but teaches her readers how to stand tall, have confidence, and how to handle the curveballs that are thrown at you. Her stories about Best Damn Sports Show Period and her year being a sideline reporter for MNF were so infuriating, often making me angry on her behalf; but in the end it was incredibly inspirational to read how Guerrero strengthened her bravery, found her voice again, and forged her own way through journalism to be a trailblazer for the many women behind her. Her words of bravery and encouragement resonated with me and will surely motivate all of her readers to lead with an empathetic heart and an overprepared mind. Lisa Guerrero is exactly what her last name means in Spanish, a warrior who inspires us to push forward. The book, Warrior, is a true journey of a tenacious woman who learned to find her voice and strength through painful experiences that no one knew she was enduring. Racism, sexism, misogyny, bullying, vicious criticism, rejection, and a broken marriage are everything Lisa Guerrero has experienced in her career as a Latina, sports journalist, investigative correspondent, and actress. It's a miracle that she is still standing today. I could not put down this book because every chapter brought another sports legend or powerful entertainer and a harsh lesson learned. I recommend Lisa's book to anyone who has questioned their role in their profession and personal life and even whether they should still exist in this world. Warrior will leave you inspired and empowered to take on the world." Lisa Guerrero chronicles her iconic career—from dealing with harassment as a sports broadcaster to chasing “bad guys” for Inside Edition— and proves that through small, daily acts, bravery is a muscle we can strengthen over time. Guerrero's past wasn't a complete mystery to me but I think a lot of people my age may have associated her with a short run as a sideline reporter on Monday Night Football and a place alongside the hooting and hollering-infused boys club vibe of Fox Sports' now horribly dated Best Damn Sports Show Period. She seemed to coast in on a wave of networks trying ton meld sex appeal to their sports content, but the book reveals that not only is Guerrero as capable a sports mind as her male counterparts (typically she's far more capable, really), but her determination and perceived fearlessness make her an exceptional person who can blaze trails and upset status quos with the best of them. Lisa‘s journey has become the platform for her acclaimed keynote speech, “Being Brave” which inspires audiences around the country to tap into their inner superhero, sharing specific steps and exercises to help both adults and children to lead a more courageous life.

Lisa Guerrero recounts her time being an MNF reporter and describes it as an "absolute hell"

GUERRERO: And I believe that bravery is like a muscle, it’s something you can practice and get better at with time. And I really wanted people to learn how to take their pain and turn it into power. Suggested Read: Gretchen Carlson Today! Age, Husband, Children, Net Worth Lisa Guerrero Dating/Boyfriend Guerrero wrote a memoir titled Warrior: My Path to Being Brave which was published by Hachette Books in January 2023. [14] Meanwhile, my father, a planning consultant for nonprofits, is also a gifted photographer, poet, and visionary. He has dedicated his life to social service. Because of my parents’ influence, my mixed media mosaics convey messages of empowerment, pride in culture, and my commitment to social justice. When it comes to her latest career of being an "investigative journalist," the few examples she gives actually show her weaknesses in the job and using it for advocacy, failing to have an objective approach to her subjects on Inside Edition. So while Guerrero may be an interviewer and may do "reporting" in the most simplistic sense, she is not a trained objective journalist and (to be honest) isn't that great on the air. Her stilted talking style and emphasis on looks basically make her come across as the cheerleader-actress she started as.

In 2003, she left The Best Damn Sports Show Period to join ABC's Monday Night Football [7] [ dead link] [8] [9] as a sideline reporter. Guerrero was fired from the Monday Night Football team after one season. Guerrero previously wrote the book, Jewelry For Your Table, a how-to crafts treatise on table setting, published in 2016. [15] Well, this makes it pretty evident that Lisa did not want to have any children for quite some time and stood by that decision. Moreover, in an interview, Lisa even mentioned she went through a suicidal phase. Fortunately, she recovered.Fast forward to reading “Warrior” - a real eye-opener! Her SoCal sports experience and interviews prior to MNF was impressive to say the least (Shaq, Kobe, Bonds). Learning about the work environment and what she was subjected to on and off the field brought additional respect for her. She was judged by many who never knew that was happening (until now!). This is a very brave lady. Her pregame scenarios tend to also include the possibility that the interview subject might simply make a break for it. Still, I'm glad I read W
