About this deal

Stays secure on the handlebars while the stiff, open body of the neoprene allows for easy hand access and removal. I actually like my Bar Mitts so much that I have started to keep them on my bike for any rides under 45 degrees (much to the chagrin of my friends, family, and dog). In the thrall of global climate change, winters here in the Pacific Northwest have become increasingly more severe. They go around the end of your bar for added protection, and there's a zipper to help fit them over your shifters and brake levers.

Used to use these in winter back when I was despatch riding, and I can confirm that they really do keep your hands warm. Some riders wear thick winter gloves but another option is to fix a set of bar muffs to your scooter. I've never used them but to me they look like dangerous in case of a fall or an accident, because they could keep your hands "locked" or constrained to the handlebar, preventing you from proper movement while falling.I also attached a small 2″ or so section of flat webbing and velcro attachment points to close the end around the controls. While we understand that this is a long time to wait, we wanted to make sure that these bikes were available to purchase for any rider who had their heart set on a preferred model and wanted to secure theirs well in advance. Sure we were always used to a fair bit of rain in the winter but freezing temperatures and snow are becoming an increasingly common occurrence. The terrain turned to rolling and we soon were plowing through some four feet of powder, descending as though we were on skis. Unlike most pogies, Bar Mitts do not cinch closed around the wrist, which makes me feel better about potentially disconnecting from my bike on rougher trails.

Interesting about the neoprene Tucano's - could you please post a picture or a link to the specific ones you are using? The mitts are shaped to facilitate grip on the tops, brake hoods and drops to ensure effective handling. The large, reinforced opening provides easy access to handlebars, and the plush lining keeps your hands warm. But with the growing popularity of fat bikes and winter riding, many cold-weather cyclists have found that pogies work just as well on their handlebars. Now, I just throw on some summer-weight gloves—or no gloves at all—and enjoy my ride without fear of numb fingers, ever. The openings of the Bar Mitts don’t extend far enough forward that I can comfortably ride on the top of the hoods. With a wide opening to accommodate your coat sleeves, you’ll be able to place your hands in and out at a moment’s notice.
