Overwhelmingly the element that had most impact was the fact it's a true story, about a real person. The show did have to relocate to the Israac Centre from the Theatre Deli so this audience did miss out on some of the technical aspects, but regardless one could tell how impressive the creative team’s work was. The title takes Dan’s joking last words to his mum, Fiona, before he left home for what turned out to be the last time: ‘I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won’t Die’. The words of the title are the last ones spoken by sixteen-year-old Daniel Spargo-Mabbs to his mother. Told entirely in the words of his family and friends, it explores the decisions that led to his death and the consequences of his loss on his loved ones.

Half Moon Theatre sits in the heart of Limehouse in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, spitting distance from the DLR and mainline station. by Louisa Reid Published by Guppy Books Cassandra, narrator of this powerful verse novel, is a reluctant sixth former in a prestigious mixed school, formerly all boys, where toxic culture simmers. It’s an important, honest and deeply touching human story of how our choices can have such a huge impact on ourselves and our loved ones.

His work has been a staple part of the Drama curriculum both in the UK and abroad for the past three decades. I love you Mum and I promise I won’t die is intended to be performed as two separate one act plays, but I feel it works just as well, if not better, as a two act play. She had taught his plays for many years – Dan had studied ‘Legal Weapon’ himself at school – and she had witnessed the power of his writing on young people. It is far from a preachy ‘Don't Take Drugs’, PSHE-style lecture though, and as a dramatic work it serves as much more. Paul Ibbott - Composer of the underscore for the OYT production This book offers a unique and fulsome guide for teaching/studying this play and includes a detailed scheme of work for teachers using the play as a set text in the GCSE Drama examination. The latter can feel overwhelming for non-design candidates, but asking students to distil how they see the play through a front cover or production poster is a simple but effective visual extension of asking what the play is about. With two Edinburgh Fringe seasons behind me and a huge variety of Theatres visited things have grown beyond my wildest dreams.
