About this deal

We tested the HP Pavilion x360 14 (model 14m-dy0113dx) with a 1080p IPS display, an Intel Core i3-1125G4 CPU withintegrated Intel UHD Graphics G4, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD, in the Natural Silver color scheme. All the components are configurable, but keep in mind that most vendors, including HP, sell this laptop as a pre-built model with a pre-determined configuration instead of letting customers choose the parts individually. As a result, it may be hard to find the exact configuration you want.

There’s no doubt about the inherent versatility of the design, though, especially if you want to use a stylus for sketching or note-taking. Even a rather heavy tablet is a lot easier to work on than the screen of a conventional laptop with a keyboard that keeps getting in the way. Design and Keyboard After playing a 15-minute, 1080p video, the underside of this convertible, near the vent, reached 104 degrees Fahrenheit. That's considerably hotter than our 95-degree comfort threshold, so consider buying a cooling pad. The biggest upgrade on the HP Spectre x360 (2021) over the previous model are its components and performance, with the laptop being a showcase for Intel’s latest mobile processors. Like the 2022 model and models before, the 2023 Pavilion x360 14 features a plastic chassis, but it still feels solid and well-built. The silver paint finish does a good job of imitating metal. The hinges that hold the two parts together are very solid and beefy affairs that hold everything firmly in position no matter how you set the Pavilion x360 14 up.However, the Bluetooth 5.0 connection only allows for setting up 2 simultaneous devices; bad news for anyone who has invested in multiple wireless peripherals like headsets and mice, or needs to connect multiple mobile devices to their laptop. Taxing the Spectre x360 14 with a heavy workload can cause the bottom panel to get warm, but not troublingly hot. The Pavilion x360 is actively cooled, but the single fan is hard to hear even when running flat out. The warmest the external casing got was 35°C, directly above the exhaust port on the left side of the unit. Wireless communications are handled by a Realtek wireless card that supports Wi-Fi 6 (but not 6E, so no 6Ghz support) and Bluetooth 5.2.

With so little colour, the Delta E variation against the sRGB profile was expectedly poor at 4.75, well above the 3 at which the generally dull and washed-out colours are visible even to the untrained eye. That all makes the Pavilion x360 14 unsuitable for colour-critical work. On the bright side, it works with Windows Hello for facial login. While there's also a fingerprint reader on the keyboard, this is better for logging in when it's a tablet. Software and Warranty on the HP Spectre x360 14

The Spectre x360 14 is the 2-in-1 laptop in its most elegant form

The Spectre has an incredibly unique 3:2 display aspect, something only found on Microsoft Surface devices, and increasingly hard to find Huawei laptops. It is much taller than 16:9, which is what ships with the Spectre x360 13. HP made the right choice here. With skinny bezels on all four sides, this aspect works at 13.5-inches. It also makes using the Spectre as a tablet or for inking much more enjoyable. This gaming simulation defeated the laptops just as 3DMark did and just as real games would. Again, these machines aren't intended for gamers. You might eke out some decent play with the Radeons at 720p and low settings, but even that is a stretch for anything beyond casual games. Battery Rundown Test There are other models of the HP Pavilion x360 with different screen sizes and CPU generations, so to avoid confusion, our review is only applicable with models beginning with the designation "14-dy", "14m-dy", "14q-dy", and "14t-dy". Screen In terms of raw numbers, the HP Spectre x360 14 review unit we tested put up a respectable average score of 4,937 in our Geekbench 5 general performance test, beating the similarly-priced Asus ZenBook Flip S UX371 (3,880) but falling behind competitors like the Dell XPS 13 (5,254). The Spectre needed 17 minutes and 2 seconds to convert a 4K video into 1080p resolution, a decent result though slower than the XPS 13 2-in-1 (15:52) and the Yoga 9i (14:24). The Spectre landed right around the category average (17:13) and finished several minutes before the Galaxy Book Flex 15 (22:18).

HP Support Assistant: Helps with system updates and troubleshooting of common issues. Connects you to an HP Virtual Agent for further troubleshooting. The Spectre x360 14's 1920 x 1280-resolution panel covers 75% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, making it more colorful than the panel on the XPS 13 2-in-1 (70%) and about as vibrant as the Yoga 9i's (76%) 14-inch display. The competition is no match for the Spectre x360 14's 3K2K OLED display option, which covers an astonishing 140% and demolishes the category average (86%). As such, the Spectre x360's battery is nice and balanced; it's able to last equally well in both light- and medium-use cases. You’ll easily get through a full work day on this laptop, which makes it an excellent tool for business users who are looking for a device that offers superb performance, fantastic looks, and won’t need to be plugged in until they return home. HP Spectre x360: software and features Finally, to test a Chromebook's battery life, we loop a locally stored video with screen brightness set at 50 percent, audio volume at 100 percent, and Wi-Fi disabled until the system quits.
