Noise machines vary from little portable powerhouses that throw out a handful of fan sounds to complex and expensive wired ‘companions’ that connect to your phone and train you in sleep-related habits, like meditation and mindfulness. As a result, they range greatly in price too. Some are aimed specifically at calming children, with long battery life and baby-proof clips for cots. Others are good for adults, thanks to more sophisticated designs and diverse audio options. What I love most of all though is that it works!! With 8mths of very little sleep and nights where I’d be up for hours with a very unsettled little man, I was willing to try anything! In fact I had tried so many things including sleepy bath washes and creams, comfort toys and other white noise devices but none had worked until now. Since using the dream egg, I have a sleeping baby! He is sleeping from 10pm-6am when he wakes for a feed and is much easier to get to sleep during both the day and night. As it comes with various timing settings or the option to have it on continuously, Jarvis is not waking up when it turns off after 20mins like other devices. It is a reminder that it's time to replace with a new filter. Please replace it when the filter indicator lights up. I live in an environment with high pollution, can I replace the filter in advance? It also has a mode called ‘breathing’ which basically cycles from dim to bright repeatedly. It’s a great idea, but I didn’t find it was as good as a constant brightness. It does a little jump when it reaches the lowest brightness, which makes it less subtle than I would have liked. The Dreamegg D11 white noise machine is one to seriously consider – especially if you travel a lot and are looking for a compact option. The contemporary design is a nice alternative to the more cutesy versions available, and the rechargeable battery can be topped up with a standard USB cable.
Is it OK to leave a white noise machine on all night for baby?
The best white noise machines can be the difference between a restful night and a difficult one. While it’s possible to find a plethora of white noise playlists on YouTube, there are a number of benefits to buying a standalone device. For one, it’s often much more convenient than leaving your smartphone or laptop playing. Baby-focused white noise machines also tend to be designed as a cuddly companion, which can make them a welcome addition to a crib.
