that it fits more in without looking too wide. Photo taken with Fujifilm XF 27mm f2.8 You can still eek out some bokeh Anyone familiar with Fujifilm’s nomenclature will notice the letters R and WR in the name of the 2021 version, indicating it now has an aperture ring and weather-sealing. Despite its compact size, measuring 62x23mm and weighing 84g, Fujifilm’s managed to squeeze-in both a manual focusing ring and a new aperture ring, although the former has understandably narrowed compared to the 2013 model. A dome-shaped lens hood is also included. I use this method 50% of my time and when I want to be the fastest, in good light conditions. For that, I set the diaphragm at f5.6 and the focus at a distance of 5 meters.

Alright …. let’s get right to the point … this lens is sharp … I mean EXTREMELY SHARP. From the widest aperture, this lens competes in the most excellent class. The only downside of the XF 27mm for portrait use is the sluggish performance in AF-C. With face/eye detection on, I find the hit rate quite low on a moving toddler. In standard AF-C, I have to keep my dogs very still. 27mm | ISO-320 | 1/340sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/1400sec | f/9 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/85sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/950sec | f/8 27mm | ISO-320 | 1/800sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/900sec | f/8 27mm | ISO-800 | 1/80sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-160 | 1/1600sec | f/2.8 27mm | ISO-320 | 1/125sec | f/3.2 27mm | ISO-320 | 1/220sec | f/8 Street Photography and Architecture With a 7-bladed rounded diaphragm I get soft 14-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light only at the smallest apertures. If you're not getting ultra-sharp pictures with this, be sure not to shoot at f/11 where all lenses are softer due to diffraction, always shoot at ISO 100 or below because cameras become softer at ISO 200 and above, avoid shooting across long distances over land which can lead to atmospheric heat shimmer, be sure everything is in perfect focus, set your camera's sharpening as you want it (I usually set mine to the maximum) and be sure nothing is moving, either camera or subject. If you want to ensure a soft image with any lens, shoot at ISO 1,600 or above at default sharpening in daylight of subjects at differing distances in the same image.Additionally, a tiny metal dome-shaped lens hood (LH-XF27) is also included in the box which screws into the 39mm filter threads on the front of the lens.

With that said, if you had considered the XF 27mm before the update Fujifilm has now made it even better by adding the aperture ring and making the lens weather-resistant. These are shot hand-held as 26MP LARGE JPGs, no tripods, FINE JPGs or RAW files were used or needed. People worry waaaaay too much about lens sharpness. It's not 1968 anymore when lenses often weren't that sharp and there could be significant differences among them; ever since about 2010 all new lenses are all pretty much equally fantastic. With the lens set to its maximum aperture of f/2.8, there is some light fall-off in the corners, requiring you to stop down by at least 2 f-stops to completely prevent it. DistortionBokeh, the softness of out-of-focus areas, isn't significant with a wide, reasonably short lens like this. Weather-resistance has been built-in to the Mark II lens at seven different locations to help protect it against water and dust and allow it to fully operate in temperatures down to -10°C (14°F).

When sunlight hits this lens just right, you’ll get a bit of a white edge to the image, almost as if you applied a white gradient to the image in Photoshop. This flare offers plenty of chances for adding character if you can get the light to hit just right. Color Rendering The X-S10's internal stabilization adds about a 3½-stop real-word improvement, which is really good! weather resistant. These days I honestly think there are better options than this lens if you want to go wide and stay compact, such as the lens listed below. You don’t have to like the ’40mm’ view, of course, but I rather do – although I don’t have this lens yet. Compromise is much sneered at but it’s essential to most aspects of life. Without it, you get products that are perfect in one aspect but too big, too expensive or too hard to use – and that applies to many kinds of equipment, not just photographic.

In my opinion, the main selling point for the 27mm lens is that it is both an ultra-compact pancake-style lens

If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 12" (30cm) wide on your screen, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 42 × 62" (3.5 × 5.2 feet or 1.05 × 1.6 meters). seems like a weird focal length, however it is the "Perfect Normal" focal length, which is defined as the diagonal dimension of the image sensor. The image diagonal of Fujifilm's APS-C cameras is 27mm, which is equivalent to 41mm on 24×36mm "Full Frame" or 80mm on the classic 6×6 HASSELBLAD system. but this level of perfection is something that can bother more than one. It may seem paradoxical, but it is the imperfections that make the character of a lens. For this reason, many are moving towards “vintage” lenses, full of imperfections and oddities, because they give a touch that some will call “magic” to your shots. This has a significant advantage: you can take this lens and camera anywhere without hesitation. By the way, this lens will not attract attention when you want to be discreet in the street. Chromatic aberrations, typically seen as purple or blue fringes along contrasty edges, are not really a problem with the Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR lens, as shown in the example below. Vignetting

The Fuji XF 27mm f/2.8 ASPH is a fantastic little lens. It does everything I'd need it to do with superb optics and tiny size. I often prefer fixed lenses over zooms.
