That same year saw Rival Sons celebrate the 10 th anniversary of 2011’s PRESSURE AND TIME, by performing the landmark LP live in its entirety for the first time ever on the sold out “Pressure and Time Tour.” The band also presented a very special two-night livestream event, Pair Of Aces, which saw them performing 2009’s debut album, BEFORE THE FIRE, and 2010’s self-titled RIVAL SONS EP in their entirety live from the historic Catalina Casino on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of California. So 2023s first of two albums from Rival Sons has dropped and this is a monster and a brilliant follow up to the amazing Feral Roots.

Darkfighter is a beautiful if not disturbed release but this instantly goes to the top of the Rival Sons catalouge. Rival Sons are often compared to sounds of the 1970s yet they cite Prince, D'Angelo and The Roots as influences alongside Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. [40] Jay has listed artists from Joni Mitchell to Sly and the Family Stone amongst his influences, often stating Van Morrison as one of his heroes. "I can't overstate his influence on me as a writer and vocalist" – Louder Sound. [41] By the end, there were really two different sides to the same story being told. On one side, you’re fighting the darkness and, on the other, you’re bringing your own light to where there is none. One side in a corner, on the ropes, and the other advancing, cleaning the ring. Without an intermission, a refractory period, the collection would be too big a bite, so splitting it in two was the only way to do it.

Four years after that breakthrough, they return with Darkfighter, the first of two albums set to be released this year ( Lightbringer is the other). With their momentum from the last record and the extra time for this one, expectations for Rival Sons are high.Whilst labelled the DARKFIGHTER tour, the band have confirmed that fans will also get to hear music from the twin album LIGHTBRINGER, which at present does not have a release date, slated only for "late 2023". Rival Sons played at Gene Simmons' "Aces & Angels" Super Bowl party on February 2, 2011, [6] before making their European debut appearance at Camden Barfly on February 12, 2011, for the HMV Next Big Thing. The band Vintage Trouble supported their act and the show sold out in advance, [7] which started a nearly unbroken string of European sell-out shows. [8] In March 2011 a string of shows at Canadian Music Week, SXSW and the House of Blues was announced. [9]
