Description

In Advanced Mode, you can assign up to four parameters to each expression pedal (A and B). Moving the pedal will adjust all of its assigned parameters simultaneously. Using the toe switch will select the other expression pedal and leave the current pedal’s parameters active and at their maximum values. Connectors: (1) ¼-inch (6.35 mm) mono input (guitar), (1) ¼-inch (6.35 mm) TRS input (expression pedal), (1) ¼-inch (6.35 mm) stereo output (send), (1) ¼-inch (6.35 mm) stereo input (return), (2) ¼-inch (6.35 mm) balanced output (main), (1) ⅛-inch (3.5 mm) stereo output (headphones), (1) ⅛-inch (3.5 mm) stereo input (auxiliary device), (1) ⅛-inch (3.5 mm) MIDI output, (1) ⅛-inch (3.5 mm) MIDI input, (1) USB Type-B port, (1) DC power adapter input For customers in outlying areas of the country, the price of the Extended Warranty may be marginally higher, due to the potential for higher collection and redelivery transport costs. Models can be freely combined to form a Rig (HeadRush’s term for a preset), a process that is based around the touchscreen, with or without the use of the encoder knob. Each rig has 11 slots, and these can be arranged as a single 11‑slot chain, a chain of three that then splits into two parallel three‑slot chains, each feeding a two‑channel stereo mixer, whose output feeds the final two slots, or two parallel four‑slot chains, which are mixed together to feed a final three‑slot chain. Saved rigs are stored in the MX5’s Rigs folder. Once you’ve built your rigs, you can group these into Setlists, which are also stored in their own eponymous folder. Naturally, the Setlist feature is useful in live situations, but it also gives you an extremely convenient way of organising rigs. As with IRs, Rigs and Setlists can be managed on a USB‑connected computer.

It may look compatible with popular multi-pedal power supplies but the MX5 will require more power than those boxes can provide. These boxes are a popular way to eliminate or reduce ground noise between different pedals by supplying a common ground. The MX5 is fully grounded through and through and will not add extra noise when integrated into a pedal system using the included power supply. In the four years since I reviewed the HeadRush Pedalboard (SOS September 2017: https://sosm.ag/headrush-pedalboard), the brand’s first guitar amplifier and effects modelling processor, the HeadRush range expanded to include the more compact Gigboard and the highly specialised Looperboard, which is dedicated entirely to the art of looping. Now, in keeping with the current trend of squeezing quarts of software into pint‑sized housings, we also have the HeadRush MX5, a super‑compact amp and effects modeller that contains all the software power (if not all of the facilities) of its larger modelling stablemates. Overview The touchscreen may be smaller than those of the larger Headrush devices but it remains easy to read and use.The HeadRush MX5 comes preloaded with 270 factory presets covering a huge variety of genres and styles. There's nothing you can’t do with this unit. It all starts with the crystal-clear touchscreen, which lets you navigate through all your settings with unparalleled ease. The interface itself is incredibly intuitive, displaying all your effects and amp/cab models in one place. In addition to the incredible built-in effects, which include a superb looper for writing and performing, there's also a built-in stereo effects loop for adding your own pedals into the mix. With this, you can use the four cable method to add in stereo pedals too, creating luscious soundscapes in the process.

You can restore your factory presets by holding footswitch 2+3 (the two right footswitches on the bottom row) while powering on the HeadRush MX5. Keep holding these two switches until you see "Reverting..." displayed on the 4" touchscreen. When you press this footswitch, you can "punch-in/punch-out" of a specific part of your loop and overwrite all previous layers. This is useful when you need to fix a very small part of a loop. Gapless preset-switching is an exclusive feature on the HeadRush MX5 and means that any reverb or delay-tails will continue to ring out, even after changing your preset or rig. This way there is no break in the signal, making your rig changes sound fluid and seamless. For a demonstration, see the video here.

Specifications

Can I turn off the amp/cab models for specific outputs or send my guitar directly to an output with no amp modeling applied at all?

The MX5 has a touchscreen has been downsized from seven inches to four but viewed in proportion it still commands our attention, and it is super satisfying using drag-and-drop icons to put together a signal chain. Sure, assembling or rearranging your pedalboard is a fun way to while away a Sunday morning, but the ease of use and the efficiency of units like the MX5 is a godsend when someone adds a new tune to a setlist and you have minutes not hours. The HeadRush MX5 is the newest and most streamlined multi-fx module from HeadRush! This article will answer the most frequently asked questions to get you up to speed on the massive potential of the MX5! The 4 new Amp Models range from clean and crunchy tones to fierce metal tones. Bass players get to utilise the B DIST 7000 model inspired by the Darkglass Microtubes B7K Ultra V2 Bass Preamp.

HeadRush MX5 Multi-Effects Processor Overview

Ease of use cannot be undersold either. The way HeadRush handles presets is very impressive. The switching is gapless. Its presets do not just present snapshots of what the unit can do with many effects together, it offers presets for the effects themselves, enabling further experimentation of each effect model itself.
